Santoni Loafers
The Leather of Santoni Loafers
Each pair of Santoni loafers goes through an intensive, lengthy, and artisanal process before you can finally wear them on your feet. The leather used for Santoni slip-ons comes from Pink calves. These Pink calves graze freely on the high alpine pastures. Because the daytime and nighttime temperatures can vary significantly, these calves develop a remarkably strong hide. Since they graze freely on the slopes of the Alps, they are not given supplemental feed and eat only what the Alps provide. Calves that are fed develop growth spurts so they can grow quickly and be slaughtered sooner. The Pink calves selected by Santoni have not experienced growth spurts, which helps keep the fibers in the hide tightly closed and the pores from becoming too large. This is reflected in the quality of the leather.
