Santoni Lace-Up Shoes and Monk Strap Shoes

The shoes that started it all for Santoni are the classic lace-up and monk strap shoes. When founder Andrea Santoni established his design studio in 1975, he produced only lace-up shoes and monk strap shoes in accordance with old Italian tradition. These shoes are still the flagship of Santoni today. The lace-up and monk strap shoes being made now continue to exude the same luxury and quality.

Where are Santoni Lace-Up and Monk Strap Shoes Made?

Since the beginning, when Andrea Santoni opened his own studio, the shoes have been made in the village of Corridonia. This village, with a population of just under 5,000, is now home to a factory measuring an impressive 15,000 square meters. While the location of production has changed, the process and quality remain the same. This goes as far as inspecting the shoes for defects in the leather using a magnifying glass.

Where Does the Leather for Santoni Monk Strap and Lace-Up Shoes Come From?

The most important component of Santoni shoes is the leather. For this reason, Santoni strives to use the highest quality leather for their footwear. The leather is also one of the aspects that sets Santoni apart from other shoe brands.

In the high Alpine pastures, Pink calves aged between 1 and 2 years roam freely. These calves live outdoors day and night, which exposes them to significant temperature fluctuations. During the day, temperatures can easily reach 25 degrees Celsius, while at night they can drop below freezing. These temperature differences help the Pink calves develop very strong and tight skin. Furthermore, the calves feed on what the Alpine pasture has to offer; they are not supplemented with additional feed. Calves that are supplemented often experience a growth spurt, which causes them to grow faster and stretch their skin more quickly. The downside of this is that the veins in their skin can become open, leading to larger pores. Therefore, leather from calves that have undergone a growth spurt is of very low quality. In contrast, Pink calves develop beautiful tight skin with closed veins and small pores, which is reflected in the quality of Santoni shoes.

Santoni Shoe Collection

In addition to the classic lace-up and monk strap shoes, the Santoni collection has significantly expanded over the years. Santoni now produces sneakers and collaborates with other companies. A good example of this is the Santoni AMG collection, a partnership between Santoni and the car brand Mercedes AMG.
